My hockey journey began at the age of three, rollerblading in my basement because my older brother was doing it. I officially started playing organized hockey at seven. Growing up in the Philadelphia area, ice hockey was not as popular as other sports, so it was difficult to relate to my peers, most of whom had little knowledge of the game.
As a child, I participated in pretty much every sport imaginable—baseball, basketball, lacrosse, football, field hockey, and golf. Many of my friends and family questioned my decision to pursue hockey, as it seemed less relevant and they doubted the potential for me to succeed in it. However, things changed when my youth hockey career began to take off.
I played boys' hockey for the majority of my childhood, and as the only girl on the team, I gained invaluable experience that helped shape my character. Competing alongside and against boys from a young age pushed me to continuously challenge myself. However, as the players grew older, stronger, and larger, I made the decision to transition to girls' hockey.
The game of girls' hockey was quite different from what I had known. It took some time to adjust, especially after years of playing with boys. I began my girls' hockey career with the Jr. Flyers 14U team for one season before advancing to the 16U team, where I played for two seasons. Moving up in age groups helped me elevate my game, making me faster, stronger, and more tactical, while developing a high hockey IQ.
In 2022, I moved up to the 19U team at just 15 years old. Playing with athletes who were up to four years older than me was a significant challenge. As a sophomore in high school, I was competing with players who were already preparing for college. This experience greatly contributed to my maturity, both as a person and as a player.
As June 15, 2023, approached, I was surprised to receive phone calls from college coaches. With limited knowledge of many of the schools, I approached the recruiting process cautiously, taking the time to evaluate each option. After narrowing down my choices to a top five, I visited several campuses. The moment I stepped onto the campus of Boston College, I knew it was the right fit for me. The team aligned perfectly with my aspirations, and the coaching staff was exceptional. Moreover, the academic reputation of the school made it an ideal choice. I was particularly drawn to BC's potential for growth, as they had never won a national championship, and I believed I could contribute to a team capable of achieving that goal.
